I made this image last weekend at Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley. I stopped off at the dunes in the afternoon the day before and as expected it was full of people and all the dunes full of footprints. Fortunately, there had been good winds during the night which had scrubbed everything clean, even the dunes close to the parking lot. Still, I hiked far east into the dune field and as a result only encountered one other person, another friendly photographer. There’s wasn’t much of a sunrise that morning (no clouds) but it was still an amazing way to spend the first hours of the day.
