Driving along the Chain of Craters road in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a blast because of the almost surreal landscape.  The road ends where a previous lava flow wiped it out.  There's a little parking area and one can then hike onto the lava rock where after a few hundred yards you'll encounter this sign.
