I love monochrome images where the tones can be massaged more heavily while being realistic. As soon as I saw this image in Lightroom, I figured that a monochrome treatment was what going to work along with high contrast. The rear quarter lighting can be a challenge but it works here creating layers of shadow and light with the snow and also the contours of the bear can be highlighted. It took a bunch of experimentation to get it to feel right, but I’m fond of the end result on screen, but especially in print (which was done on Ilford’s Gold Fibre Silk).
