There was a time over a decade ago when I thought of myself as a bird photographer, but for the last several years, I consider myself close to a landscape photographer who tries to include wildlife. This kind of image, one that establishes a sense of place but with wildlife being the clear subject are what appeal to me the most. It was a challenge finding isolated subjects away from the colony, on fresh snow, willing to come close but with some patience it did happen a few times. Its why having the ability to spend 8-10 hours each day at the colony was critical.
