I had my first sighting of the Indian Wild Dog (aka Dhole or Asiatic Wild Dog) on my trip to South India back in April.  I love how social and cooperative the African Wild Dog (or Painted Wolf) is and so was hoping to see the Indian one even if the chances were low.  We got very lucky and ran into a small group in excellence conditions, spending half a morning with them.  The Indian variety is quite different from the African, having a reddish-brown coat rather than the irregular blotches of black, brown and yellow of the African one.  However, the Indian Wild Dog is just as full of character and energy.  Just like their African counterparts, these are endangered as well with their pack sizes getting smaller and smaller.
