I made this image at the side of the road only a couple of miles from my house. I’ve driven past this spot many times and each time I’ve thought to myself that in winter with the green hills, dotted trees and a great sunset it could make for an interesting image. Yesterday in the late afternoon, I went out for a short hike with my daughter at a nearby county park as the rain had just stopped earlier in the afternoon. The sky was overcast at the park, but on our way home, right at the spot I’d always wanted to photograph the sky exploded in color. The conditions weren’t totally ideal, as the hills are still very brown with only patches of fresh green grass. Still, some beautiful color.
